I realize all of the latest posts have been about the baby, and I'll have the next one be about all the stuff we're doing with our summer, but here are a couple good ones.
This is after we washed the truck. Porter slept through the whole thing, until it was time to dry the truck off, and he decided that he felt like this: He really likes splashing in the bathtub, so I hold him with my feet around his body so his feet and arms are free to go CRAZY! He loves it and is just sooo cute doing it!
This was his first experience sitting in the kid seat in the cart instead of sitting in his carseat, and he thought it was pretty fun!
He thought it was fun until he got tired, and then this was the setup I had while I finished my shopping at Walmart.

Sandwich

So, we've been trying to get the baby to eat rice cereal, but he just isn't interested. Maybe he isn't interested because it tastes horrible... Anyway, I was eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich yesterday, and he started grabbing for it. Well, there's a good amount of sugar in the jam, so I didn't really want him to have any, but the peanut butter I made myself, and the bread didn't have any milk in it, so Jordan was like "Let's see what he does if we let him have it." So I let him grab my arm to put the sandwich in his mouth, and he loved it! After we gave him a bite, I kept eating the part that wasn't already slobbered on, but in the end there was a little bit of slobbery sandwich left that I was holding in my hand. Porter decided he wanted more, and took it upon himself to take the piece of sandwich out of my hand! He didn't eat it, but he squashed it in his little fist---what a smart little kid! I guess that's the start of his love for pb&j's.

Lots of Firsts

Grandma and Grandpa Mayfield for part of my graduation present gave me a book to write all of the baby's firsts in. So, I've been keeping pretty good track of all of his firsts, and yesterday and today've included lots and lots of firsts for the baby!

The first one of Friday was that he discovered his shadow! He was very intrigued by the entire thing, and experimented a lot with him moving around and the figure moving around also.


He also touched wood chips for the first time! We went on a walk to a park a little while away from our house, and there were wood chips in the play area instead of gravel, and he thought wood chips were not as fun as the gravel (he laughed when I would sprinkle gravel on his feet, and did not laugh when I sprinkled wood chips on his feet). He is just absolutely adorable!



The next first was the first time going to Mesa Falls (the first time for Jordan and me too!), and included in that wa that he had never seen a waterfall before! It was a pretty big waterfall, and he gave it the Elvis lip (and one-sided mountain-top eyebrow) for a long time. You can certainly tell that these two are related!


He also touched snow with his hand for the first time. He's been snowed on before, so it's touched his face, but he never had touched a pile of snow before. We couldn't keep his socks on the whole time he was there, because we had to take his regular socks off and put them on his hands, so I put my hair-things around his legs to keep his socks on. It was very neat...


He also drove in the front seat of the car, without a carseat for the first time. We were driving from the upper falls to the lower falls and he was pretty cranky, and we drove slow, so we didn't put him back in his seat.


He also had a piece of mashed potato for the first time, which he happily ate (we're starting him on a little solid foods tomorrow for his 4 month birthday!), but we don't really have a picture of that...

He met a horse for the first time...it was scary, especially because I'm afraid of horses (and pretty much all other animals), and I didn't want the horse to bite my baby (I've had a bad experience with horses and biting), so this is the closest I've ever let a horse get to my face, and it was scary but no one got hurt!


Now for Saturday! (there aren't as many...)

We (Courtney and I) took the baby swimming for the first time! It was sooooooooo fun! I loooooove swimming, and it was the most fun EVER to be able to take him swimming! Court forgot her I-card, so she couldn't come in with us, but definitely next time! Courtney knows everything about kids, so she knew how to teach a baby how to get used to being underwater. He was pretty skeptical about it at the beginning, but it turned out ok. When we put his legs in, and I thought he would start crying then, but he was just fine. So we blew in his mouth so he would breathe in, and then dunked him! It was great! He didn't even cry! He wasn't super psyched about it, but he didn't cry! We practiced him floating on his back a little which he didn't like a super lot, but wasn't horrible!








Lots of firsts!

Pajama Party!

Today is a blustery day, so the baby and I are having a pajama party! We have lots of books and we are going to spend the day having a reading day and staying inside! Yay for pajama parties!

Barbeque-ing

So, for some reason we barbeque when it's cold out. We think it's going to be warm, but it isn't, and Saturday night and tonight (Monday), we went barbeque-ing and it was flippin cold out.


Barbeque experience #1: Saturday we went to the city park to have a barbeque, but wanted to keep it cheap so we just bought hot dogs. It was so fun. They were so good--it was an adventure. We didn't bring plates, or utensils, or anything except for some condiments, hot dogs, some buns (not enough for the amount of hot dogs we got), and some soda (oh yeah, and charcoal and a lighter). It was really fun, in spite of the horrible amount of coldness. The hot dogs were sooooooooooo good. I just don't know how they make hot dogs so good, and they're 1000% better when they're cooked on a barbeque.



It was also the first time Baby saw fire--he was mesmerized. There was also a suspicious head off in the brush that we confiscated--even Baby was suspicious.
The Sausers and the Monsons came with us--we're glad they did, because they are a hoot!




Barbeque experience #2: There are no pictures to go along with this one, but it was still an adventure, and still super fun (I think it was actually more fun than the first one..maybe they were just awesomely fun in different ways). This time we had shish kabobs and grilled veggies. They were soooooooooo good. I have never had more enjoyable of either ever, in my whole life. Here are the recipes:

ShishKabobs
Kielbasa
Green Peppers
Onions
Pineapple

Sauce:
Pineapple juice (from the pineapple chunks can)
Worcestershire sauce (just keep dumping it in until you feel like it's enough...maybe a half a cup or so)
Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning (I dunno...a couple tablespoons)

Put all of the cut meat and veggies in a gallon freezer bag, add the ingredients for the sauce, (seal the bag), move the bag around until everything's covered by the sauce. Let it sit a little while--I let it marinate about an hour, and that seemed like a fine amount of time.

Sauce:
Oil (vegetable or olive) (half a cup or so)
Italian seasoning (a tablespoon or so)
Onion Powder (some)
Garlic Salt

Do the same stuff as the other one with the freezer bag. To grill, I brought a cooling rack (that you put cookies on), and put it on top of the grill so it doesn't fall through.


It was a great time, and Baby slept the entire time in the car--it was crazy. Next time we barbeque, we need to do it when it's warm because it is MUCH less fun when it's cold out.

Picnik-ed California

It's time for me to go to bed, so I'm not going to write until tomorrow or so, but I was messing around with Picnik and the photos from our California trip, and created the following:

Pre and Post-Graduation Activities

Two days before graduation, Dallin and Courtney Sauser went to dinner with us to celebrate the semester being over. We got a gift certificate from Jordan's parents to The Outback, so we used that to celebrate and it tasted so good! Afterwards, Courtney and I went to Barnes 'n Noble while Jordan and Dallin went...I dunno, somewhere. It was great to just spend some time walking around there and knowing that I could read all of the books that were there and not feel guilty about it because I needed to be studying!

Later that night, when we got home, Ladie came to spend the next couple of days with us in celebration! It was fun to have her here, and we spent a lot of good time just talking. Porter and her became fast friends!


It was great to have my grandparents, mom, and brother, Will here with me while I graduated. It was nice to just have us all together to chill. The next morning we made a big breakfast of pancakes, bacon, sausages, and orange juice (along with an orange juice, spinach, and banana smoothie, and it was so good!






I made homemade peanut butter for the first time. I really like peanut butter, but they put so much sugar and stuff in it that you can't eat very much because there are so many calories! So, I threw some unsalted peanuts in a blender and put some olive oil in it, while later Grandma Mayfield told me I didn't need to add the oil, so next time I won't. It definitely isn't as delectable as store-bought peanut butter, but it still tastes great and I feel better about eating it!


Sunday morning, Will and I made cupcakes that look like chicks to celebrate a little of Easter. I put rice milk in it instead of regular milk in both the cupcakes and in the frosting so that I could eat both of them, and they were sooooooo good! They looked cute too, and I'm super glad we made them!


There was also also a little surprise in the middle, because we tie-dyed the inside!




As my graduation present from the Deans (thanks!), we got an ice cream maker, but since I can't have dairy (the baby's allergic), we made sorbet. It was spectacular! We put berries in it, and it was so good! It made a lot more than we thought it would, but that wasn't a problem to us!


Tonight for FHE, we dyed easter eggs. I'd never done it before, and it was so fun! We all did different things with the eggs we dyed, but each one was awesome!

Done and Done

After 4 arduous years of college, I'm done. I didn't think I'd ever be finished with it, but the time is finally here. I can now just be with my awesome baby all day and help him learn and grow. I'm glad I finished school, but I certainly don't know why I was supposed to--hopefully one day I'll understand why it was so important. I really enjoy learning, so I don't think I'll go very long before I start to work my brain again, but I think I'm going to take a break from math for a little while, and maybe work on a language or something. Anyway, our new apostle was the speaker at graduation, and it was wonderful. He spoke on having Wisdom (with a capital W, because it's God's Wisdom), and using it throughout the rest of our lives. I sang in graduation choir, and we were allowed to have our spouse sing with us, but Jordan didn't want to, so I recruited Will to sing in it with me--it was rad. We sang "Guide Us, Oh Though Great Jehovah" and "This is the Christ." Grandma and Grandpa Mayfield came to celebrate, and because of that Grandma took a video of us singing. It's so awesome.
Grandma also got a great picture of us on the screen--cool-huh?!
My mom, my brother Will, and Grandma and Grandpa Mayfield came to celebrate with us, and I'm so glad they all came--it was a delight to have them here. Will's still here, and it's super fun to just chill with him. Ladie came up too, and it was a blast to have her here with us.





My great friend, Heidi, who was also a physics major, and a girl, graduated with me. We met for the first time two years ago in a lab class, and have had a lot of classes together since. She has the highest IQ of anyone I've ever known, and she's the only way I graduated.
